Responsive Body - Responsive Technologies
Responsive Body (RB) is a framework of strategies and principles for choreographic and technological research, as well as a way to stay alive and keep evolving as artists.
The aim of RB is to cultivate and sustain an adaptive, creative, curious body and mind, which is able to listen, learn and communicate in different contexts. We focus specifically on our attention and our ability to receive sensory information and create responses to this.
Our technological research is based on the idea of digital technology as embodied thought, and, as such, an integrated part of us. In our choreographic work we use technologies that enable a different experience of movement than would otherwise be possible. At the core of this is the relationship between the human body and sensors that enable the performer to control and influence sound and visuals in real time.
RB rests on four pillars: 1. Movement training 2. Tuning for improvisation and composition 3. Creating audiovisual kinetic spaces with movement sensors 4. Programming interactive sound with SuperCollider and TouchOSC
The exact balance between the four pillars will vary according to need and wish, focusing more on the movement research; on the technological side; or the integration of both.
